How accurate is Rignite's plan takeoff?
Rignite's plan takeoff has been validated to within 5% of a builder's own quoted figures on a real job, not a demo file.
We ran our automated take-off against a real set of construction plans and compared the output line by line against the quote the builder had already produced by hand. The automated figures landed within 5% of theirs.
We want to be precise about what that is and is not. It is one validation on one real job, not a statistical sample across many. We publish it because it is measured rather than modelled, and because most accuracy claims in this category are vendor marketing with no job behind them. As we run more validations we will publish those too, including any that come out worse.
How much quoting time does each tier remove?
Calculate removes 40% of desk quoting time, Automate 65% and Complete 80%. Complete caps at 65% if you do not quote from plans.
Each tier automates a different slice of the work. Calculate writes the scope of works, breaks the job down, quantifies it and compiles the client-ready quote. Automate adds the supplier RFQ loop: requests drafted, sent and chased, with pricing captured as it comes back. Complete adds automated take-off measured straight from the drawings.
Complete's 80% leans on that take-off step. If you do not quote from architectural plans there is no take-off to remove, so the model caps you at the Automate share and the calculator says so on screen rather than quietly overstating the saving.
What counts as desk quoting time?
Desk quoting time is scope, supplier RFQs, take-off, compiling and reviewing. Site visits and client meetings are excluded because Rignite cannot remove them.
This distinction is the reason the percentages are defensible. If we applied 80% to the whole job, including the site visit, the drive, and the conversation with the client at the kitchen table, the number would be nonsense. Rignite cannot do any of those things.
So the model only ever applies to the part of quoting that happens at a desk. The calculator asks for that figure specifically, and the per-trade defaults are sized to desk work alone rather than to a full start-to-finish quoting day.
Why is time valued at $80 an hour?
$80 an hour sits below what a builder charges out and close to what an estimator costs to employ, so the saving is not inflated.
We deliberately picked a rate at the conservative edge. It sits under a builder's own charge-out rate, which carries margin and overhead, and it sits near the fully loaded cost of employing someone to do the estimating instead.
It is also the input people challenge first, so it is editable. Change it in the calculator to whatever you think an hour of your time is genuinely worth and every figure recalculates. The model does not depend on you accepting our number.
Why don't you count extra jobs won as savings?
Quoting faster frees capacity, but it does not guarantee more won work. We show freed capacity separately and never bank it as money saved.
It would be easy to multiply your freed hours by a win rate and a job value and publish a much larger number. We do not, because quoting more does not automatically mean building more. Capacity is not the only constraint on a trade business.
So the calculator keeps them apart. Money saved counts time only. Freed capacity is shown as the extra quotes you could take on, described as capacity rather than revenue. Any conversion estimate uses your own job value and margin and is labelled as your assumption, not our claim.
